Stalin Quote On US Econ Assistance

Description

Official US State Dept. Archives.  The diplomatic papers of Ambassador to the Soviet Union W. Averell Harriman (Skull & Bones) in 1944 record notes on Eric Johnston's conversation with Josef Stalin, in which "Stalin paid tribute to the assistance rendered by the United States to Soviet industry before and during the war. He said that about two-thirds of all the large industrial enterprises in the Soviet Union had been built with United States help or technical assistance. [Hoover Institution scholar Antony C. Sutton, who wrote the massive three-volume academic series "Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development, 1917 - 1965" adds that "Stalin could have said that the other one-third of large industrial enterprises were built by firms from Germany, France, Britain and Italy. Stalin could have said also that the tank plants, the aircraft plants, the explosive and ammunition plants originated in the U.S."]
